Mahua Moitra asked to vacate government bungalow immediately
Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool mp who was expelled from the lok sabha in december 2023, was ordered on tuesday to vacate her government residence immediately. The Directorate of Estates issued the order. The TMC leader was already asked to evacuate the residence by january 7 after her allocation was annulled.
On january 8, the Department of education sent a letter requesting that she respond within three days as to why she had not vacated her government accommodations. She received another notice on january 12.
On january 4, the delhi High court directed the TMC representative to contact the Department of education with a plea to continue using the government residence provided to her.
In dealing with Moitra's challenge to an official notice requiring her to vacate the government bungalow by january 7, Justice Subramoniun prasad noted that the rules allowed the authorities to allow a resident to overstay for up to six months on payment of certain charges in exceptional circumstances.
The court permitted Moitra to withdraw her petition, noting that it had made no findings on the merits of the case. It stated that the DoE should decide her case based on its own reasoning.
It went on to say that the law requires a resident to be notified before being evicted, and that the government must follow the law while evicting the petitioner.
Moitra was ousted from lok sabha on december 8, last year, for reportedly receiving gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and exchanging her parliament internet user ID and password with him.
