Days after the supreme court stayed rahul Gandhi's conviction in a 2019 defamation lawsuit due to his comments on the "Modi surname," Gandhi, the leader of the congress, had his membership in parliament restored. rahul Gandhi's disqualification from serving in the lok sabha had been lifted, according to a statement from the secretariat.
On march 23, rahul Gandhi lost his eligibility to serve in the lok sabha after a Gujarati court found him guilty of defamation for his comments on the "Modi surname" and sentenced him to two years in prison. A legislator is immediately disqualified for any sentence of more than two years. The decision to reinstate rahul Gandhi's parliamentary membership was hailed as a "welcome step" by congress President mallikarjun Kharge.
Additionally, when rahul Gandhi's expulsion as an mp was overturned by the lok sabha Secretariat, he released a video in which he is seen giving candy to the opposition leaders. The opposition politician lashed out at the administration, saying, "Whatever time is left of their tenure, bjp and Modi government should use that by concentrating on actual governance rather than denigrating democracy by targeting opposition leaders."As soon as the news arrived, there were celebrations at the party's headquarters and in front of congress veteran sonia Gandhi's home.
