Day 1: bhogi PongalBeginning with bhogi / Bogi, which occurs on january 14th today, the pongal holiday celebrations officially commence. For the fertility of the agricultural land, Indra, the Lord of the Rain, is honoured on the first day. A bonfire served as the focal point of this day's activities, much like the Lohri celebration in Punjab. people honour the sun god and the agricultural implements used in crop harvesting on this day.Day 2: surya PongalThe main pongal celebration, or surya pongal, takes place on the second day, which falls on january 15. Fresh milk is heated up in the morning till it reaches the vessel's edge. It is one of the key traditions associated with the pongal celebration and is said to bring prosperity. On this day, people in tamil Nadu make the traditional sweet dish "Pongal" with rice, milk, and jaggery. Day 3: Mattu PongalThe third day of pongal, Mattu pongal, which honours cows, is observed on january 16. Since they assist farmers in cultivating and harvesting their crops, agricultural animals like cows and oxen are honoured on this day. Farm animals are bathed and then decorated during Mattu Pongal.When cows and oxen are given "Pongal," their horns are frequently painted and garland-decorated. On this day, bullfights, popularly known as jallikattu, will take place. The tamil Nadu region of madurai is home to a thriving bull-taming community.Day 4: Kaanum PongalOn january 17, Kaanum pongal, the fourth and final day of pongal, will be observed. On this day, worshippers present Sarkarai pongal and food to the sun God. Sugarcane is offered to the deity and traded among people as a symbol of sweetness and joy in life. people visit their loved ones and distant acquaintances at Kaanum Pongal. people perform regionally specific dances and songs in celebration of Kaanum Pongal.
