On New Year's Eve, thousands of people typically gather at marina beach, Elliot's beach, and other city locations.


Restrictions were put in place starting on Saturday, the day before the New Year. Some of the limits are designed to prevent fatalities and other undesirable situations throughout the evening. Reports said that the lawful window for the new year's celebration will only be between 6 pm on december 31 and 1 am on january 1, 2023.

The police promise to vigorously enforce the laws against drunk driving, reckless driving, riding without a helmet, and other violations. The marina beach, Elliot's beach, and other locations of the city are anticipated to draw thousands of people on New Year's Eve, thus the chennai police have announced a number of traffic arrangements for Saturday. Along with additional limitations, the Foreshore service road will be off-limits to motorists from 7 p.m. on december 31 until 6 a.m. on january 1, 2023. The public must abide by a list of rules that the tamil Nadu police have released for december 31 and New Year's Day. For security reasons, around a lakh police officers will be on duty on both days throughout the state. According to the state police, there should be no revelry on New Year's Day after one in the morning, and beach access will be prohibited on both days.
