Falling For Christmas Review - Lohan Dazzles in this Rom-Com
In the movie Falling for christmas, Lindsay Lohan plays privileged, self-centered heiress Sierra Belmont, who loses her memory following an accident while skiing with Tad Fairchild (George Young). Jake Russell (Glee alum Chord Overstreet), a caring single father who manages a family-owned ski resort, finds her and offers to help. Along with bringing them together, this happy coincidence will also be Sierra's saviour.
Falling For christmas is innocent in its core. Although it isn't as engaging as Netflix's other efforts, it isn't a total failure either. The film enjoys referencing Lohan's earlier films, including Just My Luck and Mean Girls. With Lohan, it doesn't accomplish anything particularly noteworthy. Along with diverting attention from Sierra's tragedy and her connection with Jake, it also makes an odd turn after Sierra's boyfriend's foolish antics. Since Sierra is ignorant that her upbringing as an heiress has rendered her unprepared to handle a variety of activities, it is time that could have been better spent on her amnesia and her attempts to be "normal."
Falling For christmas hits very similar notes and stays pretty close to the tried-and-true formula. Its comforting familiarity is so oppressive that Lohan, who is capable of so much more, is left gasping for air. Despite her admirable efforts and undeniable talent, she is frequently left to hold the audience's interest and attention. The talent and skill of Lohan are too great for a project with such low ambitions. Overstreet, however, is more than capable of matching the film's intensity.
