If the leaks from the party to a portion of the media are accurate, Somu Veerraju's tenure as the president of the andhra pradesh bharatiya janata party appears to be coming to an end. Following prime minister Narendra Modi's visits to Visakhapatnam on friday and Saturday, the rumours have started to circulate. Evidently, Veerraju's failure to make any attempts to mend relations with Pawan Kalyan, the leader of the Jana Sena party and a powerful celebrity, angered Modi. Some publications have said that when Veerraju arrived to see the prime minister at the airport, Modi did not recognise him and requested him to introduce himself.
Whether or whether these rumours are true is unknown, but sources close to Veerraju claim that some bjp core committee leaders propagated them to discredit him in front of the party's national leadership. When the prime minister visited Visakhapatnam, "these leaders sought to hijack the entire show, giving any credit to the state bjp chairman," according to a source close to Veerraju. "There has been a conspiracy to get Veerraju removed from the office."
Modi allegedly voiced frustration with the state party officials' laziness during his conversation with the bjp core committee members, while he avoided making any specific mention of Veerraju. This sparked rumours that Modi had ordered party chief J P Nadda to change the ap bjp leadership, and if those rumours were true, Veerraju would be leaving his position. It is unclear who will succeed him as the bjp leader of the state.
