Will three capitals' stir go Samaikyandhra way?
Immediately following P Chidambaram's declaration on december 9, 2009, kicking off the process for the formation of a separate telangana through a consultation process, resignations started to come in. However, because the resignations were conditional, none of the MPs actually left their positions. Even though they threatened to quit collectively after the then-UPA government decided to split the state in half in 2013, nothing changed, and eventually the state was divided. The YSRC MPs and MLAs are currently putting out a similar performance in favour of the three state capitals and against amaravati as the sole capital.
Others, including minister gudivada amarnath and former minister Avanti Srinivas, threatened to resign from their seats in support of the three capitals' move with Visakhapatnam serving as the administrative capital while YSRC mla from Chodavaram and government whip karanam dharmasri tendered his resignation in his own style. A significant campaign to make Visakhapatnam the executive capital city will be led by the YSRC. It has taken the initiative to create a nonpartisan joint action committee (JAC) to advocate for the jagan government's three capitals strategy.
