According to Kevin Feige, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a collaborative movie similar to doctor Strange in the Multiverse. After the events of the Infinity Saga, the arc of doctor Strange in the MCU was continued in the latter, sam Raimi-directed Marvel Studios film. The multiverse was a notion that was somewhat covered in the Infinity Saga but was crucial to the time theft in doctor Strange's doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which also marks doctor Strange's second solo appearance in the MCU, is referred to as a team-up movie because Scarlet Witch appears in it. Wanda Maximoff fully embraced her wicked side, which was prompted by her need to reunite with her kids, despite her healing process following the events of WandaVision. As a result, she was pitted against the other magic-user in her group, and their competition took them to various alternate realities, including Earth-838, which had the Illuminati. The film's scope was undoubtedly considerably greater than that of a typical MCU sequel, and as it turns out, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will do the same.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Feige spoke with MTV news to clarify why there are only two Avengers movies in the Multiverse Saga. During that interview, he also brought up how movies like doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now serve as minor crossover events. He continues by saying that the opening film of MCU Phase 5, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, will follow in the same manner.
