Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Review - More Thrills and Chills
Character understanding continues to be Only Murders in the Building's best asset. The murder this season likewise has personal stakes, but they belong to Charles rather than Mabel as they did in the murder from the first season. Another superb piece of narrative, it doesn't feel forced or out of place just for dramatic effect. The Arconia, the show's namesake building, comes dangerously close to becoming its own character this season. Its halls contain weighty pasts and spark fresh relationships, and all of the characters have lived there for a considerable amount of time.
The building manager of The Arcadia was brutally murdered at the close of the previous season, and Mabel was made to look guilty. As season 2 goes on, the investigation for the trio gets more and more personal. If not because they were all close friends with the building manager, then because they are all being blamed for her slaying.
In season 2, only Murders in the Building maintains all of its appeal. The primary three's interactions with one another are nonetheless interesting and charming. The show's dedication to people and empathy for its characters contributed to its elevation and helped it stand out from similar programming. It would have been reasonable, or even anticipated, for the show to move past the drama of season one and concentrate on fresh characters and scenarios in season two. However, many of the most intriguing people from the first season of Only Murders in the Building are back; just because they may be killers who are going to jail doesn't mean that their links to the main three are lost.
There is still drama to be revealed, or in this case, closure to be had. The previously established arcs cross paths with the current investigation, yet they never detract. Instead, they add a second level of stakes to the narrative and are effective at highlighting character development.
