25 years of struggle for caste certificate: Tanjore Collector went in person
The district collector paid a visit to the houses of tribal students whose parents had fought for 25 years to have their children authorised to pursue higher education, and issued certificates to 16 of them who are still in school. Tribal dark communities live in Mandakamedu New Street in Denampadukai village near Kumbakonam. Their children have been requesting caste credentials for several years, alleging that they were unable to complete more than 10th grade because they lacked the necessary caste certificates to pursue higher education.
A petition has been filed with the district collector by the pupils in the region, requesting the same. The district collector directed the Department of education to inspect the relevant field and submit a report in this regard. Officials from the school system said that they, too, were unable to pursue higher education because they lacked caste credentials.
Following that, district collector Dinesh Bonraj went straight to Mandakamedu New Street in Thenampadugai and visited the tribal neighbourhood today evening (1st). He then went to the homes of 16 of the school's kids and presented them the caste certificates in person. As a result, the tribal people, students, and alumni expressed their gratitude to the district Collector. "There are 49 families living in Mandakamedu New Street, Denampadugai village, kumbakonam taluka," the collector told reporters. For the past 25 years, their children have not received a caste certificate.
