Warning from Wuhan: New coronavirus 'NeoCoV'..?
Recently the new virus 'NeoCov' was discovered in bats in South Africa. Chinese researchers have previously identified this new type of coronavirus among bats in South Africa. Accordingly, they have found that this new virus is closely related to the coronavirus (MERS) which is associated with the respiratory syndrome.
In this study, we unexpectedly found that NeoCoV and its close relative, PDF-2180-CoV, could potentially use certain types of bad angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and, less favorably, to enter human ACE2. " Our study demonstrates the first case of ACE2 use in viruses, using "MERS-CoV-2" to shed light on the potential life-threatening threat to the human origin of ACE2 using both high mortality and transmission rates.
Furthermore, the Chinese research team said that it could not significantly cross-neutralize the infection with antibodies targeting SARS-CoV-2 or MERS-CoV.
