S Venkateshwari
On Friday, prime minister Narendra Modi addressed the country, announcing that the Centre would overturn three contentious farm legislation. According to the prime minister, "We enacted farm regulations to give farmers more control. The legislation was debated in Parliament. The measures were backed by a number of farmer organizations. We enacted these laws with the utmost earnestness. Farmers benefited from the laws. We were unable to educate all of the farmers.

We paid attention to their complaint. In fact, we proposed that the legislation be suspended for a period of two years." "Today, I'm apologizing to my countrymen. We must have made a mistake on our end because we were unable to persuade them. The new agriculture laws are being repealed."

Here are some of the key points from the speech.
• My government has made farmer welfare a primary issue.
• I've witnessed the difficulties that farmers confront. Small farmers account for 80 of every 100 farmers in our country. They just possess about 2 acres of land.
• We focused on seed, insurance, market, and money to overcome these obstacles. The crop insurance scheme has been improved. The government's efforts resulted in increased agricultural productivity.
• Farmers can now quickly file a claim for damages. Farmers have received compensation in the amount of Rs 1 lakh crore from our government.
• I'm apologizing to my compatriots today. We must have made a mistake on our end because we were unable to persuade them. The new fa has been agreed to be repealed.
