MGR Magan Movie Review - A Time Pass Entertainer!
The opening credits, set in the hilltop town of Theni, tamil Nadu, display sepia-toned flashback scenes of india before slavery brought it down. As we continue to watch the film, we understand that, while we are no longer slaves to the british Empire, we are still dominated by capitalist greed. mgr Magan takes us on a joy ride by injecting a sense of fun into today's theme.
The movie starts with a 65-year-old mgr being brought to the hospital on a wet night; what happens next keeps us glued to the screen, wanting to know more. ravi is introduced to us as a helpful, kind man who spends his days getting into mischief. Meanwhile, Ravi's estranged father, mgr, is a physician who is both dutiful and honourable. The journey of these two characters who don't see eye to eye join up to fight the entrepreneur who is hell-bent on destroying the town's life-giving, therapeutic mountain is at the center of the story.
From both the protagonist's and antagonist's views, the film's theme is clear. One sees the world as a place to thrive and lend a helpful hand to everyone in need, even if ravi and mgr have vastly different approaches to this due to personality differences. The antagonist, the owner of K.R.T bus Service, is a cunning businessman who believes in the power of money and the importance of producing money in order to thrive, and preaches on severing ties with the "good people."
When our opponent explains to his kid the concept of how kind-hearted, nice persons are detrimental to the planet, he uses the analogy of dengue mosquitoes being born in clean water to capture the essence of our antagonist's nature. When viewed in a larger context, this is evocative of how capitalist thinking and projects drain the world of goodness and righteousness.
MGR Magan is a great family film that has a good mix of laughs, action, thrills, and emotions. If you look underneath the layer of comedy, it strives to convey a message, and even if the actors' delivery is a little sloppy at times, the concept finally catches up with you. In order for the father and son to come to grips with each other's presence, the film creates an essence of family value and contradictory feelings.
