Before joining the faculty of economics at delhi school of economics, manmohan singh studied at Hindu college in amritsar and Panjab University. He's also worked for the United Nations twice, first as an economic affairs officer for the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the other as the South Commission's secretary-general. From 1998 until 2004, the economist was the leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Dr manmohan singh was India's 13th prime minister from 2004 to 2014 when the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) defeated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led nda administration.
In 1958, Singh married Gursharan Kaur. Daman Singh, Upinder Singh, and Amrit Singh are their three daughters. His health had deteriorated, and he had undergone several heart bypass procedures, the most recent of which occurred in january 2009.
