Govt Imposes Tax on Obese Indian Citizens!?

In view of the increasing problem of obesity in the country, now niti aayog is taking an important proposal so that the problem of obesity can be controlled in the country.



India has registered a four per cent increase in obesity in both men and women in the last five years. The number of obese women has increased to 24 per cent, which was once close to 20 per cent in the year 2015. 


Obesity among men has gone up from 18 per cent to 22 per cent. This increasing obesity has increased the tension of NITI Aayog. In such a situation, niti aayog has come up with a new proposal to control it. Under this proposal, it is considering increasing taxes on foods containing sugar, fat and salt and doing 'front-of-pack labelling'.


Front-of-the-pack labeling (FOPL) will help consumers identify products that are high in sugar, sugar, and fat. india may take action such as taxation and front-of-pack labeling on foods high on sugar, fat and salt to tackle rising obesity.


NITI Aayog wrote, “National Consultation on Preventing Maternal, Adolescent and Childhood Obesity was held on june 24, 2021, under the Chairmanship of Member (Health), niti aayog to discuss policy options to tackle the issue of obesity. went."
