Major Transport Connectivity Project Starts in Chennai

Chennai: Work has officially begun on the proposed Metro rail project connecting chennai International airport with the Kilambakkam bus Terminus, marking a major step in improving urban transport connectivity in the city.

The project aims to provide faster and more convenient travel between two key transport hubs, reducing travel time and easing road congestion in the southern parts of Chennai.

Improved Connectivity for Commuters

Once completed, the Metro line is expected to significantly benefit daily commuters, intercity passengers, and airport travelers. The route will link the airport with the rapidly developing Kilambakkam area, which serves as a major bus terminus for long-distance travel.

Officials stated that the project will enhance last-mile connectivity and provide a reliable alternative to road transport, especially during peak traffic hours.

Part of Chennai’s Expanding Metro Network

The new corridor is part of Chennai’s broader Metro rail expansion plan, aimed at strengthening public transportation infrastructure across the city and surrounding suburban areas.

Authorities have said that detailed planning, including station data-alignment and construction phases, is underway to ensure timely completion of the project.

Boost to Urban Development

Urban planners believe the Metro extension will support economic growth in southern chennai by improving accessibility and encouraging development along the corridor.

The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, lower travel time, and provide a more sustainable public transport option for residents and visitors.
