NBEMS Makes OPJR Joining Mandatory for DNB 2025 Session Candidates

Kokila Chokkanathan
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has issued an important directive for all medical trainees admitted to Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and NBEMS diploma programmes in the 2025 admission session. This year, the board has made it mandatory for eligible candidates to complete their joining formalities and self‑appraisal through the Online Portal for Joining and Registration (OPJR) within specified deadlines.

Who Must Complete the OPJR Process?

The OPJR requirement applies to:

  • Candidates admitted to DNB Broad Specialty and NBEMS diploma courses through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) rounds.
  • In‑service candidates admitted under state government quota, Railways, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) quotas.
  • All NBEMS‑accredited hospitals where the trainees are reporting for duty, which must verify documents and confirm the joining details online.
This step is mandatory to register officially with NBEMS as a trainee and to begin the academic training process.

What Is OPJR and Why Is It Important?

OPJR stands for Online Portal for Joining and Registration. It is a web‑based system managed by NBEMS that ensures trainees and hospitals complete essential pre‑training formalities. The process includes:

Updating the joining status on the OPJR portal.

Uploading the Joining Report (Annexure‑A) by the hospital.

Submitting the self‑appraisal form by the trainee.

Verification of documents and the self‑appraisal form by the hospital.

NBEMS will use this information to assess whether the candidate meets eligibility criteria and is fit for provisional registration as a trainee.

Key Deadlines for Trainees and Hospitals

NBEMS has set strict deadlines for the OPJR process for the 2025 DNB admission session:

📅 March 9, 2026: OPJR portal becomes active for completing joining formalities.
📅 April 9, 2026: Last date for trainees to complete joining and self‑appraisal submission.
📅 April 30, 2026: Deadline for NBEMS‑accredited hospitals to verify documents and complete the verification process.

Trainees and hospitals must comply with these deadlines to avoid complications in provisional registration and acceptance of training.

Important Requirements and Instructions

1. Hospital Verification

Hospitals must carefully verify original documents — including educational certificates, eligibility proofs, and valid caste/category certificates (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) in accordance with MCC guidelines — before confirming candidate joining online.

2. Provisional Registration Letter

Upon successful completion and verification of OPJR submissions, NBEMS will issue a Letter of Provisional Registration. This status enables the trainee to participate in training but does not guarantee eligibility for the Final Exit Examination until all criteria are verified.

3. In‑Service Candidates

Candidates recruited under in‑service quotas (e.g., Railways, PSUs, ESI) must ensure they are officially relieved from their parent organisation before beginning training. Any training done prior to formal relief will not be counted and may be treated as invalid.

4. Authentic Information Only

NBEMS has warned that any discrepancy, false declaration or misrepresentation in the self‑appraisal may lead to cancellation of the candidate’s training registration.

How This Affects Trainees

Completing the OPJR joining and self‑appraisal process is now a mandatory step for all DNB and NBEMS diploma trainees of the 2025 session. Without it:

  • Trainees cannot be provisionally registered with NBEMS.
  • Training commencement may be delayed or invalidated.
  • Non‑verification may lead to administrative complications later in the programme.
Candidates are advised to complete all formalities well before the deadlines and to coordinate with their hospital authorities to ensure timely verification.

What Candidates Should Do Next

✔ Log in to the NBEMS OPJR portal from march 9, 2026 onwards.
✔ Complete your joining details accurately.
✔ Upload the required documents and submit your self‑appraisal form.
✔ Coordinate with the hospital for document verification before april 30, 2026.
✔ Monitor your provisional registration status after submission.

By fulfilling these steps before the deadlines, trainees can avoid last‑minute issues and begin their DNB training smoothly.
