2026–27 interim budget presented today, tamil Nadu Finance minister
Thangam Thennarasu announced an allocation of
₹718 crore for the sports sector, underlining the state government’s commitment to promoting athletic development, infrastructure, and youth participation in sports.
Focus Areas of the sports BudgetThe allocated funds are expected to be used for multiple initiatives, including:
Development of sports infrastructure across urban and rural areas, including stadiums, training centres, and playgrounds
Support for athletes, including scholarships, training programmes, and financial assistance for participation in national and international events
Promotion of grassroots and school-level sports, encouraging talent identification and development from a young age
