Mumbai Consumer Commission's big comment...
A Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in mumbai has commented on vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The commission said that if non-vegetarian food hurts the religious sentiments of a vegetarian person, then why does he buy food from a place where both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is available.
The mumbai Suburban (Additional) district Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission said in an order issued last month that it seems logical that "any sensible person can recognize the difference between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food before consuming it." The commission rejected the complaint filed by two persons against a restaurant, in which it was alleged that they were served non-vegetarian food despite ordering vegetarian food.
What did the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission say?
The Commission said in this case, "If the complainants are vegetarian and their religious sentiments are hurt by non-vegetarian food, then why did they choose a restaurant where both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was available, instead of ordering from a restaurant serving only vegetarian food."
Case of 19 december 2020
According to the complainants, they had 'ordered' a soft drink along with steamed 'Darjeeling Momo' from 'Wow Momo' restaurant located in Sion, mumbai on 19 december 2020. The complainants claimed that they had specifically clarified their vegetarian choice twice, but they were served steamed 'Chicken darjeeling Momo'.
They alleged that the restaurant staff ignored them and vegetarian or non-vegetarian options were not clearly displayed on the restaurant's 'board'. The complainants had demanded compensation of Rs 6 lakh, claiming mental stress, emotional distress and hurt to religious sentiments.
