How a Ramen Lover's Post Ignited the 'Deep Bengaluru' Trend
Bengaluru, renowned for its traffic jams and high living costs, is also a hotspot for quirky online trends. While the 'Peak Bengaluru' trend highlights the city's blend of work and shopping, a new trend called 'Deep Bengaluru' has emerged, thanks to a single social media post.
The 'Deep Bengaluru' trend was sparked by Nikhil Velpanur on september 2, who passionately defended Naru Noodle Bar, a favorite ramen spot, from harsh criticism. In his post, Nikhil, who described himself as a “deep bangalorean,” revealed that he had consumed over 1,000 bowls of ramen from the restaurant. He expressed frustration over unfounded negative reviews and arbitrary ratings, stating, "I've eaten more than 1,000 bowls of ramen and have been obsessed with Naru Noodle Bar even before it had a physical location."
The term “deep bangalorean” quickly caught on, with users embracing the concept to demonstrate their profound connection to the city. A user even humorously asked, “How deeply deep Bangalorean am I? Is there a test?”
The trend gained further momentum when Shantanu Goel asked, “How deep is your connection to Bangalore?” Many people used 'Deep Bengaluru' to showcase their bond with the city and its unique experiences. Some also used it to draw attention to ongoing infrastructure issues in Bengaluru.
One user shared a nostalgic memory, saying, “I lived in one of the first-ever houses in Kodigehalli. From the terrace, we could see the Chinnaswamy floodlights and air Force training flights. The lone house was even visible from the train tracks.”
