Celebrities refuse to pay Musk $8 for Twitter Blue

In order to protect celebs from impersonation, twitter introduced its verification system in 2009. However, Elon Musk now wants everyone to pay for the Blue badge, and the decision has not been well received by many of the platform's celebrities. For verified Blue checkmarks, Musk now wants everyone to pay $8 per month (roughly Rs 900 in India), and all old Blue badges are about to disappear.

The New York Times and the white house have both already declined to pay for the verified Blue subscription programme.

The all-time highest-paid NBA star, LeBron James, who earns more than $40 million annually, declined to pay Twitter.


He wrote on the platform, "Welp guess my blue check mark will be gone soon because if you know me I ain't paying the $5."

"Now you're telling me that I have to pay for something you gave me for free?" actor William Shatner tweeted to Musk. The Columbia Records & Tapes Club—what is that?

Wide receiver Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints of the NFL wrote on Twitter: "Don't nobody want that raggedy blue check no way anymore."

"Well, this should be enjoyable. How is this equitable to those who may experience repercussions for impersonation? Before the truth even leaves the house, a lie has travelled halfway around the globe, she wrote in her article.
