According to reports in the foreign press, all aircraft across the US are currently grounded because of a significant computer outage that left the passengers stranded. After the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) experienced a widespread system error that caused flights to be grounded indefinitely, passengers were kept waiting on the tarmac, according to Mirror. According to reports, the system, which is crucial for communicating important information to flights, has been down since monday evening and is already beginning to impact services into and out of the US.

The US NOTAM system failed at 20:28 UTC, according to an air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) statement from the FAA that said the system was down. According to media sources, it stated that personnel were attempting to restore the system but that there was no expected time for completion. The air Traffic Control System Command Center reports: "There is currently no estimated timing of restoration for the NOTAMS outage. There is now a helpline available."

At Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Bettina Inclan, who has been left waiting, posted: "Update from our United pilot - The down system doesn't let him check flight plans and obey federal standards," according to Mirror.
