The Despicable Me series' star Gru and his minions appear at Dr. Nefario's (Russell Brand) shop in The Rise of Gru's one end-credits sequence, which is shown extremely early in the credits. They extend an invitation for him to join them. Nefario initially rejects the invitation, but after considerable persuasion from Gru and the minions, he decides to accept. The movie then ends with Gru, Nefario, and the minions boarding a huge ship and flying into the sky.
The Rise of Gru's post-credits scene, which shows Gru later flying his own spacecraft in the Despicable Me movies, furthers the meaning of the film's title. Apart from that, the scene and the film as a whole maintain the rebellious spirit of the Minions and Despicable Me films. The Rise of Gru maintains a cartoonish tone throughout despite being primarily about villains.
