Sam Raimi Details Reuniting With Kevin Feige For Doctor Strange 2
Raimi is now back in the Marvel universe, directing doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the next instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Scott Derrickson, the director of the first doctor Strange picture, left the project owing to creative differences, Raimi was selected as his successor, much to the joy of fans of the genre. Despite having taken a break from directing since his last film, Oz the Great and Powerful, in 2013, Raimi appears to have settled back into the position with reasonable ease as doctor Strange 2 approaches its May 6 release date.
Raimi discussed the early days of his collaboration with Marvel Studios and his reconnection with Marvel President Feig for Multiverse of Madness in an interview with Moviepilot. Raimi mentioned that Feige was an associate producer on the original Spider-Man trilogy when discussing his return to Marvel, before saying, "thank glad I was friendly to him." The director went on to detail his initial meeting with Feige before beginning work on doctor Strange 2, as well as how his artistic concerns were resolved.
