A WhatsApp Avatar is a personalised cartoon‑style character you can create right inside the app. You can customise everything from skin tone and hairstyle to outfits and accessories. Once created, whatsapp automatically generates a sticker pack based on your avatar for use in chats.

✅ Step 1 — Update whatsapp on Your iPhone

Before you begin, make sure your whatsapp app is updated to the latest version from the App Store. Older versions may not show the avatar option.

👤 Step 2 — Create Your whatsapp Avatar

Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.

Tap Settings (bottom‑right corner).

Select Avatar from the list.

Tap Create Your Avatar and then Get Started.

Choose Create Manually or Create from Photo (Selfie).

Create Manually: You’ll see options to customise skin tone, data-face shape, hairstyle, eye color, etc.

Create from Photo: Allow camera access; capture your data-face, and whatsapp will use it as a base you can tweak.

Finalise your look — hairstyle, clothes, accessories and more.

When satisfied, tap Done to save your Avatar.

💡 Note: whatsapp does not ask for gender — it focuses on customisation.

🖼️ Step 3 — Use Your avatar as Your Profile Picture

Once your avatar is created:

Go back to Settings.

Tap your profile photo and choose Edit.

Tap Use Avatar.

Pick a pose or background colour and tap Save.

This replaces your regular photo with a fun illustrated version that others see in chat lists and groups.

💬 Step 4 — Share Avatars as Stickers in Chats

WhatsApp generates a sticker pack from your avatar automatically after creation:

Open any chat.

Tap the emoji icon in the text‑entry area.

Select the sticker icon.

Choose your avatar stickers and tap to send.

🔄 Edit or Update Your Avatar

You can edit your avatar anytime: go back to Settings → Avatar, make changes, and save again.

This removes the avatar and its sticker pack permanently.

📱 Availability

The avatar feature is available on WhatsApp for iOS and Android, but can’t be created on whatsapp Desktop.
