After Deepseek, china launches new AI assistant 'Manus'!

A new powerful AI tool 'Manus' is in the headlines in China. This new AI agent is being considered more helpful than a simple chatbot. It is capable of many tasks from analyzing the stock market to creating personalized guidebooks for travel. Let's know in detail.

How does Manus work?

Manus was recently launched by Chinese startup Butterfly Effect. Its co-founder Yichao "Peak" Ji described it as a "new era of collaboration between man and machine" and considered it an important step towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). At present, this AI tool is available only through invites, but despite this, its official Discord server has reached more than 1.7 lakh members. Its name is derived from the Latin "Mens et Manus" which means "mind and hand", which symbolizes the combination of knowledge and practical use.

How is Manus different from other AI tools?

According to Manoj Harjani, a researcher at Singapore's S. Rajaratnam school of international Studies (RSIS), Manus is better than other chatbots because it can autonomously act on behalf of users. While DeepSeek and ChatGPT only answer questions submitted by users in a chat interdata-face, Manus can automatically perform ticket booking, resume filtering and other real-world tasks. Furthermore, while DeepSeek was developed behind the scenes, Manus is being promoted by giving limited invite-only access and targeting business clients.

AI censorship and sensitive issues

DeepSeek was programmed to respond in line with Chinese government policies but Manus is capable of giving unbiased answers without censorship. When Manus was questioned on the Tiananmen Square 1989 incident, he described it as a "violent crackdown by the Chinese government on pro-democracy protesters" and gave a detailed description of the incident. Manus clarified that he does not deliberately censor any factual information. The reason behind this could be that its team has not added content moderation as deeply as chatbots.
