European Solar Tech Gets a Boost- Is India Ready for this?

Glint Solar, a Norway-based climate startup, has raised $8 million in a Series A funding round to fuel its mission of accelerating solar energy adoption across Europe. With this fresh capital, Glint Solar aims to expand its innovative software platform, which simplifies solar project assessment and planning for developers. The company's software pulls in data from various sources, featuring advanced, adaptable layout designs, precise yield estimates, and country-specific geographic information system (GIS) data to help developers evaluate solar sites faster and with greater accuracy. These tools, along with 3D-rendered project layouts, are accessible in seconds, enabling efficient team collaboration and streamlining the presentation of projects to stakeholders.
Since june 2022, when Glint Solar secured a $3 million seed round, the startup has expanded its customer base nearly tenfold, according to CEO and co-founder Harald Olderheim. With a strong foothold in key european markets like France, Germany, the Nordics, and the U.K., the company is now targeting growth in southern Europe, particularly in italy and Spain.
A notable change in Glint Solar's strategy since its march 2020 launch has been a narrowed focus on land-based solar installations. Although initially catering to both ground and floating solar installations, the company now prioritizes ground-based projects, citing greater demand in this sector. While the platform still supports planning for floating solar, Glint Solar sees the bulk of demand coming from land-based solar arrays. Roof-mounted solar is not a primary target for Glint, though some customers are using the software for larger rooftop projects.
The push for solar project planning tools like Glint Solar’s highlights the broader trend towards tech-driven renewable energy solutions, a movement that has gained considerable momentum in Europe. But the question arises: Could a similar platform benefit countries like India?
