Following a robust performance in the december quarter, where it surpassed samsung to become the world's top phone maker, apple saw a significant sales downturn in Q1 of this year.

According to new data from research firm international Data Corporation (IDC), Cupertino, California-based apple witnessed roughly a 10 percent decline in smartphone shipments in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024 in the wake of heightened competition from Android smartphone manufacturers vying for dominance. The iphone maker was pushed to the second spot by South Korean tech giant samsung which emerged as the leading smartphone maker with a market share of 20.8 per cent, surpassing Apple.


Apple Saw A Robust december Quarter

Following a robust performance in the december quarter, where it surpassed samsung to become the world's top phone maker, apple saw a significant sales downturn in Q1 of this year. It has now reverted to the second position, holding a 17.3 percent market share, while Chinese brands like huawei continue to gain traction and increase their market share.


How samsung, apple, xiaomi, Transsion And Oppo Performed In Q1, 2024

As global smartphone shipments surged by 7.8 percent to reach 289.4 million units between january and March, we bring you details of how the top five smartphone brands fared in the first quarter. samsung shipped 60.1 million handsets with a share of 20.8 percent, compared to the 60.5 million shipments and 22.5 percent market during the same period last year, resulting in a 0.7 percent decline.


Apple, on the other hand, shipped 50.1 million iphone models and grabbed a 17.3 percent market share in the April-ending quarter, while it had shipped 55.4 million devices and had a share of 20.7 percent in the same period last year. apple witnessed a decline of 9.6 percent.


Chinese handset maker xiaomi saw a growth of 33.8 percent as it shipped 40.8 million devices and grabbed a share of 14.1 percent as against the 30.5 million shipments and 11.4 percent market share in the same quarter in 2023.


Transsion experienced remarkable growth, with shipments soaring by an impressive 84.9 percent. The Chinese major shipped 28.5 million units, securing a market share just shy of 10 percent. It had shipped 15.4 million handsets and secured 5.7 percent in the same quarter last year.


Oppo was the fifth top handset maker that shipped 25.2 million devices and grabbed a market share of 8.7 percent, compared to 27.6 million shipments and 10.3 percent share in the same quarter last year. Oppo witnessed a decline of 8.5 percent.
