What are the government's AI plans for the next five years?

The government intends to install more than 10,000 GPUs, or graphics processing units, as part of the AI Mission. These GPUs are unique computer kinds that will support AI operations. In addition, the government plans to create databases based on hindi and other indian languages, as well as basic models with over 100 billion parameters. These models will find application in critical domains such as agriculture, health, and governance.

More than fifty ministries will also establish AI curation divisions. Additionally, pre-trained models and AI services will be made available through the establishment of an AI marketplace. Additionally, the government will set up AI-specific chambers across various departments. Officers will be able to learn how to employ AI in these rooms to simplify their work. Additionally, the government plans to establish an online marketplace where AI-related resources and pre-trained models would be offered. Those who wish to use AI to develop new things will find this to be quite helpful.

Data centers may be constructed by private enterprises.

A total of Rs 4564 crore has been set up in the budget for the creation of computer infrastructure. The excellent AI-focused Nvidia A100 processor is $10,000. Thus, the approximate cost of a data center with 10,000 of these chips is Rs 8000 crore. All of this work will be completed through collaboration between public and private sectors. Half of the budget will come from the government; the remaining portion will come from private businesses. Private businesses will need to spend more computing power within the same budget if computing costs decline.

To construct data centers, the government will put out tenders to private construction firms. The government may also be able to assist a corporation that has a Rs 10,000 crore budget but is having trouble raising the money to create a data center. In addition, the government plans to establish an AI Innovation Research Center. For this center, approximately Rs 2000 crore has been set aside.
