Decoding Indian Railways Classes: AC.!

Indian Railways caters to diverse passenger preferences by offering travel arrangements across various classes, each designed to suit different budgets. Among the classes, the general coach has the lowest fare, followed by second seating, sleeper, third AC, second AC, and first AC. While the distinction between sleeper and AC coaches is apparent, the disparity in ticket prices between third AC and second AC might raise questions.

Third AC and sleeper coaches share a similar structure, with the primary difference lying in the presence of air conditioning in third AC. Both coaches have identical seating arrangements, but third AC provides a more comfortable journey with the inclusion of air-conditioned cabins. In third AC, berths are organized in a 3-3-2 arrangement, with three seats facing each other in one berth.

On the other hand, second AC stands apart with a distinct coach structure, featuring fewer seats per compartment. The berths in second AC are arranged in a 2-2 configuration, reducing crowding and providing more space for passengers. The seats in second AC are wider and thicker, offering enhanced comfort. The reduced occupancy ensures a cleaner and less crowded environment, contributing to a more comfortable travel experience.

The differences in facilities and space contribute to the variation in ticket fares between third AC and second AC coaches. Additionally, the first AC class adopts a cabin system, further distinguishing itself from the other classes.
