Moon Knight: Why Khonshu Hates Steven So Much
In Marvel's moon Knight, Khonshu despises Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac), and the reason for his dislike is straightforward. Isaac portrays both American mercenary Marc Spector and british museum staffer Steven Grant in moon Knight. Marc suffers from dissociative identity disorder, and one of his multiple personas, or alters, is Steven, with whom he shares a sort of partnership.
Marc is the modern-day avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, who fights Khonshu's battles as moon Knight. Khonshu has an instant dislike for the much more timid Steven, and his explanation is straightforward. Marc, as Khonshu's human avatar, takes risks, whilst Steven does the opposite. Steven is a much weaker person, and the fact that Marc has to share a body with him, as well as Steven's apparent stronger influence over their transfers, irritates Khonshu. Steven is overwhelmed by his unexpected dislocation and unable to fathom the existence of a voice in his thoughts early in moon Knight, when he finds himself in the Alps.
The first episode of moon Knight depicts Khonshu's irritation with Steven, who is understandably perplexed and terrified as he seeks to deliver over the Scarab of Ammit to Arthur Harrow's attacking followers. Khonshu has what he considers to be the ideal vehicle for fighting fights and coming victorious in terrible ways with Marc as his human vessel. Steven, who is more mild-mannered and intellectually minded, prefers to flee rather than fight in the face of danger. Khonshu believes that in Marc, he has a considerably more direct and reliable means of completing his tasks.
