The live-action version of Bubbles gives the Powerpuff Girls a new lease on life. Early last year, The CW stated that the series would be developed, with the goal of portraying the legendary superheroines as mature, disillusioned young women. The Powerpuff Girls, created by animator Craig McCracken, follows three children with abilities who frequently saved Townsville from monsters and other disasters in the original series.

The project has met a number of hurdles since its announcement. The first was that the channel had rejected the season premiere, albeit the reason for this was never revealed. Following that, the show had originally cast Chloe Bennet (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ), Dove cameron (Descendants), and Yana Perrault as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, but lost Bennet due to scheduling difficulties after the refusal delayed production. Donald Faison also appeared in the pilot as professor Drake Utonium, although his role in the current production is unknown. Despite this, shooting is said to be progressing briskly, and there haven't been many concrete developments in a long time.

The show's creators and creators are "very, very, very thrilled" with where Powerpuff is now, cameron previously told ComicBook. cameron made a point of stressing that the creative team wants to get the show right, despite the fact that she couldn't go into any important information due to the franchise's popularity and the risk of spoilers or misinterpretation. She even compares the cancelled pilot to Game of Thrones, which had its pilot discarded and reworked before airing.
