Eternals Breaks Record For Biggest MCU Movie Debut

Eternals aired on Disney+ on january 12th, and it is now the most watched MCU movie on the OTT service. Eternals was among Marvel Studios' greatest risky investments to date, as the movie was promoted significantly differently from other Movies, bringing a completely new collection of characters to the MCU. The critical response was divisive, as it had the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score for an MCU film and the very first rotten rating in the MCU movie franchise.

Despite having the least opening night of the Phase 4 MCU movies released in 2021 and coming in on the low end of the scale of domestic grosses for an MCU picture, Eternals remained to be the sixth highest-earning feature at the domestic box office in 2021, grossing $165 million. The film debuted in front of Black Widow and Shang-Chi at the global box office, grossing $402.9 million.

By epidemic standards, Eternals performed admirably. Many people worried if Marvel's new super squad would be popular with the general public, and if the decreased box office was due to the epidemic or if viewers were frightened off by unfavourable reviews and poor critics at the ticket window.
