World Boxing extends the term of BFI's interim committee?!
Boxing: Since the appointment, the committee has organized national championships and subsequently international tournaments in all age groups (under-15, under-17, and elite) during its initial 90-day tenure, adopting a 'player first' approach.
Impressed by the steps taken to ensure transparency and stability in indian boxing administration, World Boxing has extended the term of the interim committee of the Boxing Federation of india (BFI) till August 31. The interim committee, headed by ajay Singh, was appointed in april this year to manage the day-to-day affairs of boxing in India.
Since the appointment, the committee has organized national championships and subsequently international tournaments in all age groups (under-15, under-17, and elite) during its initial 90-day tenure, adopting a 'player first' approach. In a letter to ajay Singh on Monday, World Boxing President Boris Van der Vorst congratulated the interim committee for its 'player first' approach that ensured medals, along with the continued participation of indian boxers in major international competitions.
Van der Vorst said, 'Given the upcoming domestic and continental competitions, the interim committee is requested to continue to manage the affairs of the BFI to ensure the seamless participation of indian players at all levels.' indian boxers won a total of 11 medals, including three gold and five silver, at the World Boxing Cup concluded in Astana, kazakhstan on Sunday. india had won six medals in the first edition in brazil and also performed impressively at the thailand international Open.
Vorst's letter also mentions his recent conversation with indian Olympic Association president PT Usha, who appreciated the efforts being made by the interim committee. The six-member committee also includes BFI vice-president narendra Kumar Nirwan, executive director Arun Malik, and Olympian L Sarita Devi. A member of the IOA is also part of the committee. Apart from this, singapore Boxing Association president Fairuz Mohammed is also part of the committee. He is also serving as a representative of World Boxing.
