If the World Chess Championship match reaches the playoffs
Chess Championship: Tania Sachdev said - If the World Chess championship match reaches the playoffs, Liren will have the upper hand
Tania said that the match between the indian Grandmaster and his Chinese opponent has been contrary to expectations.
Grandmaster Tania Sachdev believes that if the World Chess championship match against D Gukesh drags into the playoffs, then due to his greater experience, defending champion Ding Liren will have the upper hand. After the initial nine rounds, both the players are tied with equal 4.5 points. Sachdev hopes that 18-year-old Gukesh will be able to take full advantage of his opportunities in the upcoming five games.
Tania said, 'Certainly the chances were very high for Gukesh in the beginning. But the way the match turned, I think now he is lagging behind a bit.' Tania said, 'If this match goes into tie-break, play-offs, then due to his experience in speed chess, Liren will have more chances in the match.'
He said, 'Ding had reached the World championship after facing a very challenging and professionally very difficult time. There was a lot of discussion in classical whether this match would even reach the 14th game?'
Tania said that Liren has shown 'extraordinary spirit' in the competition so far. He said, 'Liren has shown amazing spirit and patience. Gukesh still has many chances. There were many times in this match when Gukesh strengthened his hold butevery time Liren made a good comeback.'
