Rohit explained reason for defeat in Pune Test
Team india got caught in its own trap in the second Test against New Zealand. After the defeat in the first Test, Team india got a turning track built in Pune. Still, Rohit and company were defeated by the Kiwi team by 113 runs. Left-arm off-spinner Mitchell Santner took a total of 13 wickets in this match for New Zealand. He sent seven indian batsmen to the pavilion in the first innings and took six wickets in the second innings.
After the defeat in the second Test, indian captain rohit sharma said, "Disappointing. This is not what we expected. Credit has to be given to new zealand, they played better than us. We failed to take advantage of some special opportunities. We failed to respond to those challenges and we are sitting here today. It did not seem that we batted so well that we could put runs on the board."
He further said, "You have to take 20 wickets to win. Also, the batsmen have to score runs on the board. Stopping them at around 250 was a big battle, but we knew it was going to be challenging. When they started, their score was 200/3 and for us to come back and bowl them out for 259 was a great effort." The indian captain further said, "It was not a pitch where a lot was happening. We did not bat well. If we had been a little closer in the first innings, things would have been a little different. We want to perform well at Wankhede and try to win that Test. It is a collective failure. I am not a person who will blame only the batsmen or the bowlers. We will come out with better intentions, better ideas and better methods at Wankhede." The third and final Test match between india and new zealand will now be played at Wankhede in mumbai from november 1.
