Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra to Lead Indian Teams at Asian Table Tennis Championships
Veteran table tennis player sharath Kamal and rising star Manika Batra have been named as the leaders of the indian squads for the 27th Asian table tennis Championships, set to take place in Astana from october 7 to 13.
Sharath Kamal, who recently competed in his fifth and final Olympics, will captain the men’s team. The team includes Manav Thakkar, Harmeet Desai, G. Sathiyan, and Manush Shah. Meanwhile, Manika Batra will lead the women’s team, which also features sreeja Akula, Ayhika Mukherjee, diya Chitale, and Sutirtha Mukherjee.
According to a statement from the table tennis Federation of india (TTFI), the selection process was thorough, focusing on players’ world rankings, international experience, and national performance.
The indian team has been preparing under the guidance of foreign expert Massimo Constantini, who has been enhancing the players’ skills and strategies since returning to india in June. Constantini expressed confidence in the team’s performance, stating, “I am hopeful they will put their best foot forward at the Astana championships.”
The squad achieved notable success at the paris Olympics, with the women’s team reaching the quarterfinals and the men’s team falling to china in the round of 16. This was the first time india qualified for team events at the Olympics.
The Asian table tennis Championships are a crucial qualification event for the World table tennis Championships and the Asian Games, making it a significant competition for the indian team.
