 Washington Freedom (WAF) brushed aside san francisco Unicorns (SFU) by six wickets in the Qualifier of the ongoing Major League cricket (MLC) season 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium on July 26 (Friday). With the win, Washington is set to make their maiden Major League cricket final appearance and is primed to win it as well. Led by steve smith, Washington has been beaten just once in the entire tournament.


San Francisco will have one more opportunity as they will data-face texas Super Kings (TSK) in the Challenger match, and whoever wins that match will data-face WAF in the finals.

Coming to the match, Washington Freedom was given the target of 146 runs in 20 overs. They data-faced a rocky start as captain steve smith threw his wicket away early into the innings trying to play an uncharacteristic shot. However, opener Travis Head,was once again in a destructive mood as he brought up his fifth consecutive fifty in the tournament. He was supported by compatriot Glenn Maxwell who also brought up a fifty in just 22 balls and steered Washington Freedom to a comfortable six-wicket victory with four overs to spare.

Earlier in the match, San Francisco was put in to bat first after steve smith won the toss. Finn Allen and Jake Fraser-McGurk started shakily and lost their wickets not long after. SFU were in grave trouble as they found themselves 67-5 after 11 overs. However, Core Anderson and Hassan Khan stitched a good partnership to take their team out of trouble. Eventually, SFU finished with 145-10 in 19.1 overs.


Rachin ravindra was the standout pick of the bowlers for Washington as he scalped four wickets in just 2.4 overs giving away only 11 runs.
