The Hundred Women's 2024: Paige Scholfield Inspires Oval Invincibles women To Win In The Opener

The Hundred Women's 2024: Oval Invincibles women make a dominant start to their tournament by registering a 45-run victory over Birmingham Phoenix Women. Here are the details.

The Hundred Women's 2024

Oval Invincibles women beat Birmingham Phoenix women by 45 runs in the opening match of The Hundred Women's 2024, as the unique league is back again with exciting action. Electing to bowl first, Birmingham Phoenix women were off to a positive start, as Katie Levick did well to get rid of the Oval Invincibles women captain Lauren Winfield-Hill but the journey afterwards was a downhill one for the Ellyse Perry-led side, as OIW registered a total of 150/5 in their 100 balls, thanks to 71 off 40 from Paige Scholfield.

In reply, BPW's batting order faltered under pressure as Amanda-Jade Wellington led the bowling attack of OIW from the front by scalping 3 wickets, and was well-complemented by other bowlers, as Birmingham were bundled out for 105 inside 92 balls.

"I am buzzing today with my performance. I usually come in at the end but I enjoyed opening the batting tonight. Yeah, I feel like the wicket played well as it had some tennis ball bounce and I backed myself. We batted till 11 and I trusted myself because I knew I had them in my back. She (Chamari Athapaththu) can bat in my place and I would be happy to bat down the order. We are one of the best fielding sides and we are proud of ourselves tonight," said Paige Scholfield, who was awarded the Man of the Match.

Lauren Winfield-Hill's side commenced their tournament on a winning note and was full of praise for her players, and also added that sri lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu will be joining the side after the conclusion of the ongoing Women's Asia Cup 2024.

"Well, I enjoyed the way we played tonight. Paige batted well and she took calculative risks which worked well for us. Chamari will be back for us and I am sure Paige will be happy to give her that spot. We have a really good group of players and I am proud of the way we played tonight. We knew 150 was a par score here but still, we had to bowl well which we did as well."
