The first blow to CSK..!? NZ action player withdrawal?
Devon Conway, who has performed well as the opener of the chennai Super Kings team in the last two IPL series, is doubtful to participate in the 2024 IPL series. Due to his injury, he will not be able to participate in cricket matches till May. The news of Devon Conway's injury comes as a big blow to CSK as it was expected that he will be one of the 11 players who will definitely play in the matches. Devon Conway injured his left thumb during the series against Australia. After that, he withdrew from the Test series. He is scheduled to undergo surgery soon after the doctors who examined him said that he must undergo surgery.
After that he will not be able to play cricket for eight weeks. Accordingly, he will not be able to participate in any matches till the first week of May. The 2024 IPL series is scheduled to start on march 23 and end in May. Hence, Devon Conway will not be able to participate in most of CSK's matches in the IPL series.
In such a situation an IPL team may drop the injured player from the squad and include a substitute. But will CSK drop Devon Conway when he has been a key player for CSK? The question has also arisen. If Devon Conway does not play, CSK will be forced to choose another opener. Daryl Mitchell, another New Zealander, is likely to be the opener.
