Never happened in the history of indian cricket..!?
Never in the history of indian cricket has a Test team with such inexperienced batsmen been selected. That's how bad the indian Test team has gone. This situation is due to some mistakes made by BCCI. Apart from Jaiswal, the first announced squad for the five-match Test series against england included batsmen with international experience like rohit sharma, virat kohli, KL rahul, shreyas iyer, and Shubman Gill. Among them, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer's form was the only concern. After that virat kohli withdrew from the Test series due to personal reasons. Then the in-form KL rahul withdrew from the second and third Tests due to injury. bcci dropped Shreyas from the last three Tests due to his poor form.
In the absence of three batsmen with international experience, Rajat Patidar, who has only played in the second match of the ongoing england Test series, will be fielding in the third Test along with two debutants Sarbaraz Khan and dhruv Jurel. It is said to be the first time in India's history that three inexperienced batsmen have been introduced in the same Test series at the same time. Before this, the players were introduced in the same test series as a combination of bowlers and batsmen. Now for the first time, the indian team is going to introduce three batsmen at the same time.
This should be seen as a failure of the indian team management and BCCI. Everyone has confidence in the ability of the three debutants. But they may have been introduced as individual players in previous series as well. Similarly, a veteran player like Pujara, who is waiting for an opportunity at another position, may be given a chance for two of them in the team. That way, the overall experience of the team would have been more balanced. But the bcci is adamant that even though players like Pujara and Rahane are playing in domestic matches, they have no chance in the indian team.
Similarly, while shreyas iyer and Shubman Gill have missed the South African Test series, Pujara should be included in the england Test series. But, it didn't. Similarly, Sarbaraz Khan has been raining runs in the domestic Test series for the past six years. Rajat Patidar has been the highest run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy for the past two years. By now they would have played 5 to 10 Tests and gained some experience if they were given a few Test matches in between. But the bcci failed to do so. bcci is ignoring experienced players at the wrong time and choosing young players. It will be a big pressure for those young players as well. Captain rohit sharma and coach rahul dravid also have their share in these wrong decisions.
