Abhishek Tanwar, the captain of the salem Spartans, broke a record on tuesday night in Coimbatore's tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 match against chepauk Super Gillies by allowing 18 runs from one legal delivery. Sanjay Yadav was still unbeaten at 31 off 12 balls when chepauk posted 217 for 5 after batting first. Tanwar, who had taken the most wickets in the TNPL 2022 season, handed up 26 runs in the final over, including 18 runs off the penultimate ball.

Tanwar first threw a no-ball, which led to a single. He then bowled another no-ball on the free hit, which was hit for a six and resulting in 9 runs. He again bowled a no-ball that was hit for three runs off the following free hit, then he gave up a wide off the following free hit, and finally he gave up a six to end the extraordinary over.
As the Super Gillies put up a huge total, Pradosh Ranjan Paul led the way with 88 off 55 balls, including 12 fours and a six, and skipper Narayan Jagadeesan chipped in with 35 off 27 balls. The maximum runs allowed off a single legal delivery were not 18 by Tanwar off one ball. Travis Birt had scored 20 runs off of one ball against Clint McKay during the 2013–14 Big Bash League season. In a 2004 ODI encounter, India's virender sehwag destroyed pakistan pacer Rana Naved-ul-Hasan for 17 runs off of one delivery.
"I must accept responsibility for the final over; as a senior bowler, four no-balls were frustrating. The wind did not help since it was very important, the salem Spartans captain Tanwar stated following the game. Tanwar continued, "We have planned that way because there is confusion due to the fact that we have a lot of openers, but after this game we should have that sorted (on sending kaushik Gandhi at 5)."
