The custodian of cricket, Marylebone cricket Club (MCC), published revisions to the Laws of cricket on Wednesday, replacing the gender-neutral phrases "batsman" and "batters" with the gender-neutral terms "batter" and "batters." After a lengthy deliberation by the Club's expert Laws sub-committee, the MCC committee approved the amendments.

According to the MCC, the new vocabulary will make the game more inclusive for all players and encourage gender equality. When the laws were drafted in 2017, it was decided to use the terms "batsman" or "batsmen." After consulting with the international cricket Council and important members of the women's cricket community, the decision was made.

The modifications will happen immediately, and the required amendments have been made to the Lords of cricket Laws, which may be found at lords.org/laws. For quite some period, a number of well-known news organizations have used the term "batter" in their reporting.
MCC Assistant Secretary (Cricket and Operations) Jamie Cox was reported as saying, "MCC believes in cricket being a sport for everyone this move respects the changing data-face of the game in contemporary days." The finale of the Women's Hundred, which pitted Southern Brave against Oval Invincibles, drew 18,216 spectators to the Lord's, setting a new record for a home women's tournament.
