Rishab Pant chosen ahead of Steve Smith to lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021
IPL Carnival is all set to begin in two weeks and the franchise teams are busy unveiling their new jersey and sponsors. Also, with changes made to the team due to unexpected injuries, there have been changes in captaincy too. delhi Capitals is the worst-hit team as their captain shreyas iyer dislocated his shoulder and he won't be available for the entire IPL season as he is going for surgery. With rajasthan Royals leaving steve smith and delhi Capitals purchasing him, it was expected Smith would captain the side.
But the management and team had other ideas and they have chosen rishabh pant as their team's captain. Ever since the ball-tampering issue happened Smith and Warner have been cornered by the National team as well as franchise teams. Warner who has captained Sunrisers hyderabad was replaced by Kane Williamson and now pant has replaced Smith.
Regarding being picked to captain delhi Capitals, rishabh pant said, "Delhi is where I grew up, and where my IPL journey began six years ago. To lead this team one day is a dream I've always harboured. And today, as that dream comes true, I feel humbled." rishabh pant has already began his training session at the delhi Capitals camp.
