When batting great sachin tendulkar recalled memories of watching the 1983 world cup final with his friends on the 37th anniversary of the historic triumph.

sachin tendulkar, who has often spoken about the importance of the 1983 world cup final in helping him pursue cricket as a career, said india beating west indies is a 'landmark event' in his life. On this day in 1983, Kapil's Devils rallied against the odds to beat the mighty west indies in the final at the Lord's, London. Labeled as rank outsiders, india gathered momentum throughout the tournament with some fine individual performances and team work to stun the west indies on the big day.

The world cup triumph, as pointed out by Kris Srikkanth, was not just a turning point for indian cricket but for many indians in general. Among the ones who watched the final and 'celebrated till late in the night' were sachin tendulkar and rahul Dravid. Taking to social media on thursday, sachin tendulkar said he and his friends were celebrating the fall of each and every wicket during the big final. "The #TheWorldCup1983 Final like for many was a landmark event in my life.

Tendulkar said "Still recall my friends & I celebrating all wickets right from BS Sandhu's epic delivery to Greenidge to Kapil Paaji's catch. We jumped & celebrated the fall of each wicket! What an evening it was". When speaking to Star sports, World Cup-winning opener Kris Srikkanth said it was Kapil's pep-talk at the mid-innings break that did the trick for india in london on the day of the big final. "With the batting line-up that West indian had and looking at 183, we thought we had no scope at all. But kapil dev said one thing and he didn't say we can win but he said look guys we have got out for 183 and we should give resistance and not give away the match so easily," Srikkanth said.
