Guru Purnima 2018: Why we have to celebrate it? All the Facts you need to know

Guru Purnima is the day on which  Srila Vyasadeva appeared, falling on Ashadha Shukla Purnima every year, and this year, Guru Purnima is observed today. Srila Vyasadeva, the son of Parashar Muni and Devi Satyavati was born in an interesting manner.



Once when Parashar Muni was traveling across  Bharatvarsha, he stayed at the house of a fisherman named Dusharaj and during his stay, he was attracted by the beauty of his daughter Matsyagandha. With his magical powers, he gave her a son named Krishna Dwaipayana Vyasa.



Srila Vyasadeva was a spiritual master of Vedic saints, And he was the one who divided the  Vedas into Sama, Yajur, Rig, Atharva,  besides preparing Puranas and Upanishads and Mahabharata.



Guru Purnima is celebrated in Buddhist and Jain nations besides India and Nepal. People worship their gurus seeking blessings and also offer prayers in temples. Many fasts on  Guru Purnima to express their respects for their teachers, and to pray for their wellness.
