The gaura purnima festival was held yesterday (March 25) at the iskcon temple in chennai with much fanfare. Devotees gather together to commemorate the incarnation of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu (Lord Krishna). Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's divine presence was full of joy and devotion.


Devotee avatar of Lord Krishna:

It is noteworthy that about 500 years ago, Lord krishna incarnated in this world as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. And the special feature of this avatar is that Lord krishna incarnated as a devotee.


The importance of this avatar is that he took this avatar to show the devotee of Lord krishna how to recite Krishna's name and how to live with devotion. It is especially noteworthy that he incarnated in blonde.


What is gaura Purnima?

As 'Gaura' refers to Lord krishna with golden mane and 'Poornima' refers to the full moon day of his incarnation, it is celebrated as "Gaura Purnima".


As such, the gaura purnima festival was held at the iskcon temple yesterday. The festivities began amidst soul-stirring chants of the Hare Krishna maha mantra that increased one's devotion and surrender. During the ceremony, Lord krishna was anointed with panchamirta, a holy mixture of multi-colored flowers, panchagavya, and various types of fruit juices.


This was followed by more than 500 delicacies served. A sumptuous night offering was given to about 2000 visitors who all enjoyed the day full of spiritual bliss and gratitude.
