Karwa Chauth 2023 fasting rules: Dos and don'ts to keep in mind

Karwa Chauth, the auspicious festival, is almost approaching. This year's date is november 1, which is also known as Karak Chaturthi. Married ladies practise a strenuous nirjala vrat (fasting without food or drink) during this festival in order to ensure the safety and prosperity of their husbands. From daybreak to moonrise, they maintain their fast.

Women observe Karwa Chauth by worshipping Lord Ganesha, Maa Parvati, Lord Shiva, and Lord Kartikeya. They also break their fast by looking at the moon. Married ladies break their fast with a piece of food and a drink of water from their husbands' hands after gazing at the moon through a sieve. One significant festival ceremony is the Karwa Chauth vrat. Married males and single couples also keep the fast, however married ladies are the ones who often observe it. While attending the celebration, there are several dos and don'ts that must be adhered to.
Dos and don'ts to keep in mind while observing the Karwa Chauth fast
1. The colour red is associated with the Karwa Chauth festival because it is fortunate and is worn by ladies in the festivities. Married women can, however, also wear other hues, such as orange, pink, green, and yellow. They should stay away from white or black tints, though.
2. Another significant ritual of Karva Chauth Puja is the application of mehendi on the hands and the performance of solah sringar. A day prior to Karak Chaturthi, married ladies should henna their hands and dress traditionally—preferably in red—wearing bindis, nose pins, mangalsutras, bangles, earrings, rings, and more. The mehendi and sringar represent wealth, good fortune, and a happily married life.
3. Another significant Karwa Chauth vrat rite is sargi. It's a special thali that includes presents and various food items that married women get from their mother-in-law. Before beginning the fast, the sargi should be eaten as a pre-dawn meal. Generally speaking, the thali is prepared such that it can supply all the energy and minerals required. Pheni, meethi seviyan, fruits, coconut, meethi mathri, dried fruits, candies, paratha, and juice are all included.
4. The pre-dawn meal should include tems rich in protein and carbs as they take longer to digest and will keep you full longer.
5. Prior to the start of the fast, consume as much water as you can. Fatigue and headaches can both be made worse by dehydration. Another excellent addition to your liquid intake is fresh fruit juice. In the meanwhile, abstain from tea and coffee to avoid becoming acidic.
6. women observing the Karwa Chauth vrat should not use scissors, needles or knives.
7. pregnant women should avoid keeping the Karwa Chauth fast as it can be stressful for them and affect their health.
