The tamil New Year is celebrated as Puthandu, often referred to as Puthuvarudam, and is observed by the people of tamil Nadu on the first day of the tamil calendar or the first day of the Chithirai month. The day is highly significant and is known as the tamil New Year. In some regions of tamil Nadu, a unique dish known as "Mangai Pachadi" is served on Puthandu.

Eating this dish on Puthandu is thought to provide harmony and balance to life since it is a combination of flavours, including sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy, which represent the various emotions that one encounters in life. Puthandu is a significant event for Tamils all across the world, marking the beginning of a new year and encouraging new beginnings.

According to the Gregorian calendar, Puthandu occurs essentially every year on the same day. april 14 will be designated as Puthandu everyyear.

History:

The Chola dynasty, which ruled over tamil Nadu and other regions of South india from the ninth to the thirteenth centuries, is credited with establishing Puthandu. The tamil New Year was established on the first day of Chithirai during this period, which saw the creation of the tamil calendar.
