Pilgrimage Woes: Bridge Needed.!
Srisailam, a renowned shrine in andhra pradesh and one of the 12 Dwadasa Jyotirlingas attracts devotees not only from the two telugu states but from across the country. Recently, Justice NV Ramana, the former Chief Justice of the supreme Court, penned a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi, urging the construction of a bridge route or elevated corridor to Srisailam.
He highlighted that srisailam Kshetra is considered the southern Kashi, and it witnesses the arrival of lakhs of devotees from andhra pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, and Maharashtra. Justice ramana pointed out that the existing National Highway No. 765, spanning 191.1 km and connecting hyderabad with srisailam, data-faces challenges. Approximately 62.5 km of this route passes through the nallamala tiger Conservation Centre, with a narrow road width of 5.5 to 7 meters.
Daily, over 30 thousand devotees traverse this route, increasing to one lakh during festival seasons. To address the traffic issues and ensure a smoother pilgrimage, Justice ramana proposed the construction of a bridge, particularly in the nallamala forest area. He emphadata-sized that this initiative would not only ease transportation but also mitigate the impact on wildlife in the tiger reserve.
Drawing parallels with the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, Justice ramana commended the personal initiative of prime minister Modi in making it a reality. He expressed optimism that a similar effort by the prime minister could bring the Dakshina Kashi project to fruition.
Acknowledging a response from the Union Road and Transport Department, which appointed a consultant for a Comprehensive Project Report (DPR) to improve the srisailam road, Justice ramana urged prime minister Modi to reiterate focus on this crucial project. He concluded the letter by suggesting that announcing the bridge project as a gift to the devotees of the telugu states on the occasion of Shivratri would be a significant gesture from the Prime Minister's office.
